Holyrood 2016: Ballot boxes open and counting begins

Ballot boxes have been opened and counting has begun of votes cast in the Holyrood election.

Polling stations closed at 22:00. The first results are expected on Friday at about 02:00 with the final result at about 08:00.

About four million people were registered to vote in the election which will see 129 MSPs returned to the Scottish Parliament.
