Tricia Marwick steps down as Holyrood presiding officer

The first female presiding officer of the Scottish Parliament has stepped down.

Tricia Marwick, who held the post for five years, said she wished to spend more time with her grandchildren.

She will not seek re-election as MSP for Mid-Fife and Glenrothes but will return to help install a new presiding officer in May.

A lone piper led MSPs from Holyrood's debating chamber as the parliament was dissolved before the election on Thursday 5 May.
