New £197m power project for Kintyre and Arran completed

A multi-million pound project to strengthen a power line serving Kintyre and the Isle of Arran has been completed.

About 20,000 homes were left without power supplies after particularly heavy snowfall in 2013 caused pylons to collapse.

Engineers say the line is now better able to withstand extreme weather conditions and has also connected wind farms in the area to the national grid.

BBC Scotland environment correspondent David Miller has been speaking to those who worked on the new line and to those who will rely on it.
