Criticism for Scottish draft budget 2016-17

Opposition parties in Holyrood have been giving their reaction to finance secretary John Swinney's draft budget 2016-17.

Scottish Labour's Jackie Baillie called it a "budget for an election only" and criticised the lack of detail on budget cuts saying "austerity hidden is not austerity avoided".

Speaking for the Scottish Conservatives, Murdo Fraser expressed surprise that the government had chosen not to do more to tackle austerity by not increasing the rate of income tax.

This view was echoed by Willie Rennie, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, who claimed Mr Swinney had campaigned to have control over more tax powers and yet has done nothing when he did receive them.
