George Osborne says government will sell shares in RBS

Chancellor George Osborne says the government is to sell its stake in the Royal Bank of Scotland, in a a process which could take years to complete.

Taxpayers spent £45bn to save it in the the biggest bank bailout in the world.

The announcement was made during a speech, at London's Mansion House, on Wednesday night.

BBC Scotland business reporter Gillian Marles says that at the current RBS share price, the government would make a loss on the sale.
