Laser beams light on chemical warfare

Scientists have developed a technique that can detect hazardous chemicals in a fraction of a second.

The team at Heriot-Watt University have been firing ultrafast lasers at an object to create a chemical "fingerprint".

It is hoped the technique could be used to spot chemical and biological weapons on the battlefield without going near them.
