Scottish independence: Shell boss wants Scotland to stay in UK

The chief executive of Shell has said he believes Scotland should remain part of the UK and the UK should stay within the EU.

Ben van Beurden was speaking at the company's annual reception in London when he made the remarks.

The company had previously said it would remain neutral in its view of the referendum on Scottish independence.

BBC Scotland's political correspondent Glenn Campbell said Mr van Beurden's viewpoint reflected a corporate intervention: "He believes that maintaining both those unions is likely to provide the greater investment, stability and certainty for his company."
