Cyclist killer Gary McCourt's sentence upheld

An Edinburgh driver who caused the deaths of two cyclists, more than 20 years apart, will not have his sentence increased after judges threw out an appeal by prosecutors.

Gary McCourt had been sentenced to community service and a five year driving ban after causing the death of 75-year-old Audrey Fyfe in Edinburgh in 2011.

The Crown Office had argued that was too lenient and that he should have been jailed and banned from driving for life.

McCourt had been jailed for two years for a similar offence after the death of 22-year-old George Dalgity in 1985.
