Abuse at Fort Augustus School is 'shaming' says bishop

One of Scotland's most senior Catholics has apologised on behalf of the church for decades of physical and sexual abuse of pupils at a boarding school.

The Bishop of Aberdeen, Hugh Gilbert, said the abuse meted out at Fort Augustus Abbey School and its prep school in East Lothian was ''bitter, shaming and distressing.''

"I know that Abbot Richard Yeo has offered an apology to those who have suffered such abuse and I join him in that,'' he added.
