Officers search lorry in £16m heroin swoop at Italian port

A Scottish lorry driver has been arrested after an estimated £16m worth of heroin was seized at a ferry port in southern Italy.

An articulated lorry was stopped by police on Monday as it arrived at the Adriatic port of Bari from Greece.

Officers who searched the vehicle found 41kg of "high purity" drugs packed between boxes of breadsticks bound for Lancashire.

Two drivers, aged 32 and 42, were remanded in custody and the lorry was seized.
