Efforts underway to protect Comrie from more floods

Sandbags have been manoeuvred into position in an effort to protect a Perthshire village from further flooding.

Perth and Kinross Council has announced it is to speed up plans to protect the village of Comrie after a second flood hit residents in three months.

The authority will commit £1m for a range of measures at the Water of Ruchill which burst its banks during torrential rain earlier this week.

Many parts of Scotland have been affected by heavy rain and strong wind.

Around 500 homes lost power in Dumfries and Galloway after lightning strikes and a landslip has closed the railway line between Kilmarnock and Dumfries.

One flood warning is in force in Perthshire as southern, central and western parts of the country remain on alert.
