Increase in non-UK students seeking Scots universities

European rules mean students from the EU who want to study in Scotland can do so for free.

Ten years ago the bill to educate them stood at £20m. Two years ago that had risen to £75m.

New figures have shown a 6% increase in the number of EU students who want to come to Scotland, meaning another hike is certain.

They are part of statistics showing how differing charges are changing the face of higher education.
