Gales cause damage across Scotland

Storms have damaged property and caused power cuts across Scotland.

Shetland and Orkney experienced 100mph hurricane-force winds and speeds of up to 70mph were recorded in Glasgow.

About 6,000 properties on the Western Isles and 3,000 homes across the mainland have been left without power following the storm.

The Met Office has warned of heavy rain and gales spreading from the southwest. Up to 30mm of snow has also been forecast for the Highlands and Argyll.
