Farage: Threat to peace is 'resentment' at lack of EU democracy

Nigel Farage has dismissed the idea that leaving the EU would threaten peace in Europe, mocking the prime minister for “suggesting that the Germans have tanks amassing on the borders”.

He said the threat to peace on the continent instead came from its population becoming “increasingly resentful” at the European Union’s lack of democracy.

“What he needs to understand historically is that when Europe is democratic it’s peaceful,” the UKIP leader told the BBC's Ben Wright.

Mr Farage said when people could not “vote for things” they “resort to violence or political extremism”.
