'Kiss a ginger' remark by Chris Bryant baffles Speaker

Labour MP Chris Bryant drew baffled looks from colleagues - and John Bercow - when he wished the Commons Speaker a happy "kiss a ginger day" during business questions.

After Mr Bryant's question about repairs to the Palace of Westminster had been answered, Mr Bercow returned to the matter.

He said officials had had to search on Google to explain the reference (to a Facebook campaign urging people to show affection for those with red hair) adding that it sounded like a "very rum business".
