I'm voting for Smith but Corbyn will win, says MP Frank Field
The former UK minister for welfare reform, MP Frank Field, has explained to BBC HARDtalk's Stephen Sackur why he will be voting for Owen Smith in the Labour Party leadership contest.
Asked why he is backing Mr Smith when his views on Europe are completely different to his own, Mr Field said: "The key thing is that Smith actually wants to win, not just this contest, but at general election," adding that if he was serious about winning the general election Mr Smith will shift the views he holds.
"I'm interested in having somebody who actually wants to win," said Mr Field.
Mr Corbyn's stewardship was interesting in lots of ways said Mr Field, particularly around building social protests, but he believed it would be brought to the end before the general election.
