Sunday trading hours : Government defeated in Commons vote

The government's plans to extend Sunday trading hours in England and Wales have been defeated in the Commons by 317 votes to 286.

Conservative rebels voted with Labour and the SNP against the proposal to give councils the power to allow large shops to open longer than the current six hour limit.
