Did Tories break by-election spending limits?
An investigation by Channel 4 News claims the Conservative Party exceeded the campaign spending limit in three recent by-elections, in Rochester and Strood, Newark and Clacton.
The campaign spending limit in by-elections is £100,000 per party, but Channel 4 News political correspondent Michael Crick said the investigation obtained "hotel bills from several of the hotels in each of those campaigns, and they are huge amounts".
The Conservatives have said: "All by-election spending has been correctly recorded in accordance with the law."
Guest of the day Ruth Davidson, leader of the Scottish Conservatives, told the Daily Politics her party was "wholly autonomous" in Scotland, but added that her "colleagues down south do say they have declared everything as required".
