Labour MP Alison McGovern quits party policy group

Alison McGovern MP has told BBC One's Sunday Politics she is resigning from a Labour policy review group because she feels it is impossible to work with the leadership.

The Wirral South MP, who also chairs the Progress group of the Labour Party, said she had been "backed into a corner" after shadow chancellor John McDonnell suggested her group had co-ordinated the resignation of three junior shadow ministers this week - a claim she denies.

Ms McGovern said Mr McDonnell had asked her to take part in Labour's policy review on child poverty and combating inequality.

Sunday Politics is on BBC One on Sunday at 11:00 GMT.
