Philip Hammond: 'UK must confront Islamic State threat'

So-called Islamic State (IS) presents a threat to the UK which must be "confronted" and "defeated", the foreign secretary has warned.

Philip Hammond's comments come after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution to "redouble" its action against IS.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Hollande will meet on Monday to discuss the fight against terror.

Mr Hammond said the UN vote showed "the unity of purpose" among the international community.

He said the UK government would seek Parliament's agreement for air strikes in Syria.
