Boris Johnson on 'lefty academics' who boycott Israel

London Mayor Boris Johnson has had to abandon planned visits to the West Bank because of security fears following his comments about people who support a trade boycott of Israel.

He described people who boycott Israel as corduroy-wearing "lefty academics, who have no real standing in the matter".

Speaking later, Mr Johnson accused "some elements" of "whipping up social media".
