Michael Meacher tributes from McDonnell and Beckett

Michael Meacher was "light years ahead of his time on some issues" such as climate change and bank deregulation, said John McDonnell.

The shadow chancellor said the former environment minister was an astute politician, and a "really decent human being" who devoted his whole life to the Labour Party.

Former deputy leader Margaret Beckett described his death as "very much a loss".

They were speaking to the BBC's Norman Smith after the death of the MP for Oldham West and Royton since 1970 was announced on Wednesday.
