Heywood and Middleton by-election: Labour's Liz McInnes narrowly wins seat

Labour's Liz McInnes has held on to the party's seat in Heywood and Middleton, narrowly beating UKIP by just over 600 votes.

The by-election was prompted by the death of long-serving Labour MP Jim Dobbin last month.

Speaking after the result was announced, she said that people had "given their backing to Ed Miliband's plans for the NHS".
