Lamb: Moral and economic reasons for mental health targets

Introducing waiting time targets for people with mental health problems will "ensure genuine equality between mental health and physical health [treatment]", Liberal Democrat Health Minister Norman Lamb has said.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg unveiled the move - which will see people with depression beginning "talking therapy" treatments within 18 weeks, from April - ahead of his speech to the Lib Dem conference in Glasgow.

Mr Lamb told the Today programme that there are "both a moral and economic case" for such targets.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 8 October.
