Liberal Democrats pledge tax cuts for lower earners

The Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg says he would raise taxes for the wealthy to deliver tax cuts for lower earners straight after the next election if his party stays in government.

But he was dealt a blow at his annual party conference when delegates voted against his preferred option to change policy to allow expansion of Gatwick airport.

He has been speaking to the BBC's political editor Nick Robinson.
