Islamic State conflict: Nick Clegg dismisses army boost

"Ramping up" traditional armed forces is not the best way to deal with the threat from militant groups such as Islamic State, Nick Clegg has said.

The deputy prime minister was responding to comments by the former head of the armed forces, General Lord Richards, who has called for a recruitment drive to reverse the government's increasing reliance on part-time soldiers.

He told The Andrew Marr Show that such threats from "stateless, mobile groups" was leading to coalitions of states uniting to tackle them.
