Labour criticises Tory plan to curb Human Rights Act

Sadiq Khan, Labour's shadow justice secretary, has criticised Conservative plans to replace the Human Rights Act with a British Bill of Rights.

The Justice Secretary Chris Grayling says Britain would withdraw from the convention on human rights unless it can secure a guarantee that parliament can have the final say on issues such as prisoners' voting rights.

Mr Khan told the BBC's Iain Watson that the Tory plans were "written on the back of an envelope" and that Britain should be proud of its current human rights legislation.
