Passport Office worker: Staff morale 'suicidal'

Extra staff brought into the Passport Office to deal with the backlog of applications do not have the necessary training or sufficient knowledge of security checks, a Passport Office worker has said.

The worker, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Today programme's Sima Kotecha that Home Secretary Theresa May did not understand the true severity of the situation.

He added that the morale of workers was "suicidal" and that staff are tired and cannot concentrate due to working overtime.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 13 June.
