'Right time' for cigarette packaging review

A report into the effectiveness of non-branded packaging for cigarettes, based on evidence from Australia, will be presented to the government by March next year.

The government shelved plans for standardised packaging earlier this year, saying it wanted to see if the Australian scheme made a noticeable difference first.

On Thursday, Public Health Minister Jane Ellison told the House of Commons "the time is right to seek an independent view" into the idea.
