Osborne on Syria Commons vote and military action

The chancellor said it would be "very sad if we turned our back on world" as he reviewed the Parliamentary vote where MPs declined to back military action in Syria.

George Osborne said Labour "played this in a quite opportunistic way" and Ed Miliband "looks a bit less like a prime minister even than he did a few weeks ago".

He "wanted us to be part of a potential military response, now that is just not going to be open to us now", but he reckoned Britain should be "self confident" about wanting to shape the world
