Margaret Thatcher served in Downing Street longer than any other post-war prime minister, and her legacy and image are said to overshadow what she was really like as a person and a politician.

Giles Dilnot looked into the archives before former education secretary Gillian Shephard revealed what a former French president asked her about Lady Thatcher when she spoke to him for research into a book.
