Replacing the submarine-launched Trident nuclear missiles is an issue that divides the coalition.
They can be seen as an expensive hangover from the Cold War era, ill-suited to defend Britain's interests today, or a necessary deterrent to protect the UK from countries like Iran or North Korea.
Giles Dilnot heard both sides of the argument with Malcolm Chalmers from the Royal United Services Institute, and the former Lib Dem Defence Minister Nick Harvey.
