Signs of more motorway service stations on UK roads

Back in 1992, John Major spoke of the need for service areas on British motorways and closing the gap between them - to give parents an easier ride around the country.

Today's government hopes that extra service areas will also help give the economy a boost.

Adam Fleming spoke to David Lawrence from Kingston University at the UK's newest service station, and looked back to the image that greeted travellers when the first motorway service stations opened.
