Joan Bakewell on treatment of women in television
Women working in television in the 1960s were routinely groped by male staff, said the former broadcaster Joan Bakewell.
Now Baroness Bakewell, she recalled the working practices of the time while debating with Rob Wilson MP the response of the BBC to allegations surrounding Jimmy Savile.
She claimed: "We were all padded, pinched, stroked, the whole female sex was available in those days - not willingly so - in the 1960s. It was how you treated women."
