No British aircraft carriers cause 'problem' in Falklands

Former First Sea Lord Alan West said there would be a "real problem" with a large airfield in the Falklands if Argentina were to take it, as Britain would not be able to recover it as it had no aircraft carriers.

But he said: "We have the capability to defend them." He doubted Argentina was planning another attack, but thought that could change "at the drop of a hat".

He served in the Falklands where he was in command of HMS Ardent, lost in the 1982 conflict over the disputed islands that were recaptured by the UK.
