Theresa May: Policing changes a cause for optimism

Proposed changes to Britain's policing model should be "a cause for optimism... not fear" the home secretary has said.

Speaking at the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) annual conference Theresa May defended the need to make cuts and said scrapping targets freed the force to focus on serving the public.

Earlier, Acpo president, Sir Hugh Orde warned that the changes could threaten the impartial model of policing if they are mismanaged and would result in fewer staff in the service.
