Ministers plan child support advice charges
Ministers are proposing an overhaul of the current system of child support, including charging for statutory guidance on maintenance.
Under new plans - which are subject to consultation - couples would be helped to find a settlement on their own, or with assistance from voluntary and charitable bodies. Those unable to resolve their situation would pay a one-off application fee for statutory guidance of around £100 for those in work, £50 for those on benefits and £20 for those in the most acute financial need.
Maria Miller, minister for work and pensions, said the proposals would help families in the long term.
