Clegg defends coalition cuts ahead of Lib Dem conference

The Liberal Democrats are preparing to meet at their annual conference as a party in power, for the first time in 65 years.

The coalition with the Conservatives and fears over the pace and depth of the deficit reduction are expected to dominate the conference.

Ahead of the opening, the leader Nick Clegg defended the forthcoming spending cuts which he said, were needed to "make things better for everyone".
