Rescued battery hens get knitted pullovers in North Yorkshire

Knitters have been recruited to make some winter warmers for three rescued ex-battery chickens.

Staff at Thirsk Bird of Prey Centre, North Yorkshire, said the birds are not used to the outdoors and their previous living conditions caused them to shed their feathers, leaving them rather exposed.

Members of Thirsk Yarn Bombers, who are more used to designing woolly street decorations, volunteered their services to help warm up the chickens.
