Nissan decision on new models 'fantastic economic news'

Car giant Nissan's announcement that it will build its new Qashqai and X-Trail SUV at its Sunderland plant has been hailed as a vote of confidence in the UK economy.

There had been fears over the Japanese firm's commitment to the factory following the EU referendum in June.

Carlos Ghosn, Nissan's chief executive, recently met Prime Minister Theresa May at Downing Street to discuss the matter.

He has now said he welcomes her "commitment to the automotive industry in Britain". The plant employs about 7,000 people.
