Peterlee Town Council's £1m bank balance revealed

North-east of England town councils have a total of £7m in their financial reserves, the BBC has learned.

Some have very few responsibilities, apart from maintaining parks and cemeteries.

BBC Look North has discovered one County Durham town authority alone, Peterlee, has £1m in the bank and an annual salary bill of £1m.
