Football favourite Michael Bridges comes back to his Tyneside roots

A former footballer who played for both Sunderland and Newcastle came back to his Tyneside roots to support a new football academy at his old school.

Michael Bridges, 37, had spells on Wearside, Tyneside and at Leeds, before heading to Australia to finish the last six years of his career with the Sydney-based team Newcastle Jets.

Bridges was back at his old school, Monkseaton High, to support the academy initiative launched by another Sunderland old boy, Martin Scott.

The school has clearly seen a few changes since Bridges was a pupil there
