'Quick thinking' saved fishermen after boat sank off Northumberland coast

A combination of "quick thinking" and pure "good luck" saved the lives of two North East fisherman, according to one of their rescuers.

Both men were pitched into the sea at about 09:00 GMT when their boat capsized and sank near Coquet Island, off the Northumberland coast.

One clung to a lobster pot buoy until help arrived, the other managed to swim to the safety of some rocks off Coquet Island.

John Connell, the Amble RNLI coxswain, said both men demonstrated quick thinking, and they had called on their sea survival training.
