Police hail Newcastle Sunderland derby approach a success

Northumbria Police have hailed their new approach to the Tyne Wear football derby.

Fans travelling from Sunderland on Sunday were given more freedom to move through Newcastle to St James' Park than in previous years, and officers said the move worked with far fewer people arrested.

Sunderland won 1-0 through a 90th minute goal scored by Adam Johnson.

Damian O'Neil reports.
