BP Portrait Award: Sunderland only host outside London

An exhibition of entrants to one of the world's most prestigious art competitions has opened in the north-east of England.

Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is the only English venue outside London to host the 2014 BP Portrait Award.

The contest, now in its 35th year, awards a first prize of £30,000.
