Police outline Newcastle University terrorism inquiry

Northumbria Police have outlined the investigation into alleged terrorism offences which sparked two evacuations of Newcastle University and a controlled explosion.

Two Russian students are being held after explosives were found in a bedroom at the university, which caters for about 4,000 international students, earlier this week.

Northumbria's Assistant Chief Constable Jo Farrell said the investigation was triggered by university staff who were concerned that one of the students was carrying a knife.
