Norse Challenge: Cancelled event a 'nightmare'

Hundreds of athletes were left "annoyed" after a 10km (6.2 mile) challenge in Northumberland was cancelled a few hours before the event.

The first Norse Challenge at Druridge Bay would have involved battling through mud, the North Sea, under barbed wire, and down a giant mud slide, but was cancelled because of safety concerns due to heavy rain.

However, one athlete said what should have been a fun day had been an "absolute nightmare".

Organisers said they "recognised" there were "other issues" that needed to be looked into.
