Actor Ricky Tomlinson joins bid to revive social club's fortunes
A Middlesbrough club is asking comedy's "biggest stars" to perform at the venue in a bid to revive the social club scene.
Many working men's clubs in the north-east of England have closed due to dwindling numbers, but the Dormans Club is aiming to bring back the "glory days", starting with Ricky Tomlinson.
The actor, who started his career in social and working men's clubs, said he has "never forgotten his roots" and believes if a venue provides a "good full night" of entertainment, people will come along.
Promoter Paul Gough said he was "quite confident" other clubs in the region will follow what they have "kick-started".
