Sussex farmer uses digger to clear travellers from land

A farmer from Sussex has told of how he cleared a group of travellers from his land by threatening to move their caravans with his digger.

Dave Dawson, from Shoreham, said the travellers cut through a metal girder and moved 10 tonnes of rubble to get into the field.

"They would have been towed out - there's no way they would have stayed in here," he said.

Sussex Police, who were in attendance, confirmed that six caravans arrived at the farm at 06:45 BST and left three hours later.
