Demolition of Surrey ‘hidden castle’ begins

A farmer has begun to demolish part of the mock castle he built on the Surrey greenbelt without planning permission.

Robert Fidler hid it behind bales of hay for four years in an attempt to avoid the planning regulations, but Reigate and Banstead Borough Council successfully fought him through the courts.

Last November a High Court judge warned Mr Fidler he would be jailed for three months if he does not remove the building at Salfords, near Redhill, by 6 June.
